ENGLISH BINISAYA DICTIONARY

BINISAYA-ENGLISH, ENGLISH BINISAYA DICTIONARY
by Eduardo A. Makabenta (2nd Edition)
6"x9", 400 pages including the prefaces,
printed on book paper (not newsprint).

First published in 1979, the dictionary is the first - and probably the only one - comprehensive reference on the language of Samar and Leyte and other smaller islands in the Visayas. Over 2 million Filipinos speak the language.

The Second Edition has over 11,000 Binisaya word entries and about 10,000 English words translated and explained. All entries are in alphabetical order, with each term carefully and concisely defined.

The term Binisaya is used because the author, Eduardo A. Makabenta Sr., a poet and learned in the use of language, believed that the colloquial Waray or Waray-waray (which means "nothing") is simply unsuitable as a term for a people and their language. In additioon, Binisaya has been widely used by the people of Samar and Leyte to denote their language.

CARIGARA E-MAIL REGISTRY

Every time our Fiesta comes around, the Kalgaranon host receives an updated master list where the next year's invitation is based upon. This list is solely for the use of the host city for the purpose of inviting individuals listed within to the Fiesta. The Email addresses should be respected in the same way not unless otherwise specified by the person involved that they be made available to the public for other Carigaranons to see.

Overheard from last years event was how cumbersome and time consuming it was preparing the envelopes for mailing. With the technology we have now a lot of time and money could be saved by utilizing the Email system. Right now I have in my list 160 addresses in my book. These include Carigaranons in the Philippines and from other parts of the world whom I am in touch with. Not bad for a starter. Here is the current available addresses list. 2005 FIESTA CELEBRATION IN CARIGARA

Sunday, February 8, 2004 Lets celebrate our 2005 Fiesta in Carigara I have received several requests to encourage Kalgaranons living here in the Western Continent and other parts of the world to celebrate our towns Fiesta once again in our beloved Carigara in the year 2005. A lot of good will benefit our town if we spend our Fiesta monies with our relatives there. It would be exactly 10 years since our successful quadra-centennial celebration there, that the people who approached me think it is a wonderful idea and a very good excuse to visit the old homeland. There is still more than a year to the appointed date, so we would like to solicit your opinion on this matter. This BLOG thing is the best avenue where we could spread this information to most Kalgaranon's as fast and efficient as possible. This is set up so that anyone can express their views and influence others by expressing their opinions in their own words. Whether you are interested in this proposal or not we would like to hear from you anyways. As a Kalgaranon you are entitled to speak out. Let us hear your views, say hi to your town mates. Use this site to communicate with long lost relative or friends. God Bless.
