ENGLISH BINISAYA DICTIONARY
Topic: BISAYAN DICTIONARY

BINISAYA-ENGLISH, ENGLISH BINISAYA DICTIONARY
by Eduardo A. Makabenta (2nd Edition)
6"x9", 400 pages including the prefaces,
printed on book paper (not newsprint).

First published in 1979, the dictionary is the first - and probably the only one - comprehensive reference on the language of Samar and Leyte and other smaller islands in the Visayas. Over 2 million Filipinos speak the language.

The Second Edition has over 11,000 Binisaya word entries and about 10,000 English words translated and explained. All entries are in alphabetical order, with each term carefully and concisely defined.

The term Binisaya is used because the author, Eduardo A. Makabenta Sr., a poet and learned in the use of language, believed that the colloquial Waray or Waray-waray (which means "nothing") is simply unsuitable as a term for a people and their language. In additioon, Binisaya has been widely used by the people of Samar and Leyte to denote their language.

I believe all Calgaranons should have this in their collection. For inquiries, post your comment below.

Name: Apoy ha Norfolk

I can certainly use it, lab-ina iton spelling in Waray (Bisaya). I don't use "k" unless it is a Tagalog word, like, "kita". Lab-ina liwat con libre ito. Balitaw, how much is it selling for?
